After the federal and state governments summit, Ludwig announced this but reaffirmed it. On Wednesday, despite high infection figures, the government announced relaxations. As of March 5, almost all measures are dropped – except in Vienna. FFP2 mask requirement remains partially in place.
Austria is at a plateau in terms of infections, yet there are relaxations in two stages. Starting February 19, the strict 2-G rule will be replaced by 3-G. From March 5, most Corona restrictions will fall.
Stricter rules will remain in Vienna, while in Carinthia, a two-week safety phase will determine whether or not all nationwide opening steps will be supported.
Measures overview:
▶Access restriction: starting Saturday, the strict 2-G will become a 3-G restriction. The gastronomy (in Vienna 2 G remains), hotel industry, body-related service providers, events, bus travel, sports facilities, and cable cars are affected by this measure.
▶Green Pass: As of March 5, the Green Pass is no longer required for access in Austria. The 3-G rule at the workplace will also no longer apply from then on. Unvaccinated persons have access everywhere without testing. Exception: 3 G in vulnerable areas such as old people’s and nursing homes, hospitals, and night catering.
▶FFP2 mask obligation: The FFP2 mask must continue to be worn in public transport, in vital commerce (pharmacies, food retail, banks, post office, etc.) from March 5, as well as in hospitals, older adults’ homes, and hospitals. Otherwise, a recommendation for an FFP2 mask applies to enclosed spaces.
▶Night catering: With the fall of the curfew on March 5, night catering also opens without a mask requirement. Only the 3-G rule applies. Vienna is taking a unique path here. In the Danube metropolis, guests must be vaccinated or recovered. An additional test is being discussed.
▶Entry: 3 G applies from February 21 as a general rule for entry, unless it is an area with virus variants.
